Thing To Do Beside Siem reap Local employment and on-the-job English language training... Despite a booming tourism industry in Siem Reap with new hotels, guesthouses, pubs, bars and restaurants opening (and closing) on a regular basis, the province of Siem Reap still remains one of the poorest in Cambodia. Unfortunately, negligible amounts of the economic prosperity reach those in the countryside and, despite being a relatively small business venture, Mr Kunn and his staff at Jasmine Lodge andJasmine Family Hostel attempt to rectify this whereever possible with its ‘pro-poor’ employment, tour and food policies. Jasmine Lodge and Jasmine Family Hostel employ eight permanent members of staff of which all have been recruited from villages outside of Siem Reap. All employees receive accommodation and training, and through their interaction with guests, they benefit from on-the-job English language training as they go along. Additionally, Mr Kunn has also refurbished and turned his grandfather's old house in Kralanh district into a local center for supplementary education and capacity building for the children and villagers of Sampov Lourn village.
